Description

This refreshing and creamy Tzatziki Sauce is a classic Greek condiment perfect for dipping fresh pita bread and crunchy vegetables. Made with grated cucumber, Greek yogurt, garlic, fresh herbs, and a hint of lemon, it offers a bright and tangy flavor that complements Mediterranean dishes perfectly. Ready in just 10 minutes, it’s an easy, healthy addition to your appetizer or snack repertoire.

Ingredients

Scale

Tzatziki Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 medium English cucumber (grated)
  • 2 cups Greek yogurt
  • 2 large garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • â…› teaspoon pepper

For Serving

  • Pita bread
  • Fresh vegetables

Instructions

  1. Grate the cucumber: Place a cutting board on the table and grate the English cucumber using the largest holes on your grater to get coarse shreds.
  2. Drain excess moisture: Place the grated cucumber into a mesh cloth or cheesecloth and firmly squeeze out the excess water over the sink. You can do this by working in batches, squeezing handfuls at a time to ensure the sauce doesn’t become watery.
  3. Combine ingredients: Transfer the drained cucumber to a large bowl. Add the Greek yogurt, minced garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, chopped dill, chopped mint, salt, and pepper to the bowl.
  4. Mix thoroughly: Gently stir all the ingredients together with a rubber spatula until well combined and smooth.
  5. Adjust flavors: Taste the tzatziki and adjust seasoning if needed, adding more salt, lemon juice, or herbs to suit your preference.
  6. Chill and serve: Transfer the dip to a serving bowl and chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Enjoy with fresh pita bread and a selection of crisp veggies for dipping.

Notes

  • Make sure to squeeze out as much water as possible from the cucumber to prevent the sauce from becoming too runny.
  • Use full-fat Greek yogurt for a rich and creamy texture.
  • Fresh herbs like dill and mint can be adjusted or substituted with parsley if preferred.
  • This sauce pairs excellently with grilled meats, gyros, or as a spread on sandwiches.
  • Store leftover tzatziki in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
