Description

Strawberry Nutella Hand Pies are delightful mini desserts featuring flaky pie crust filled with creamy Nutella and fresh strawberry filling. Easy to prepare and perfect for serving warm or at room temperature, these hand pies combine the rich flavor of hazelnut spread with the freshness of berries for a delicious treat suitable for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Pie Crust & Filling

  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (2 rounds), thawed
  • 1/2 cup Nutella
  • 1/2 cup diced fresh strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch

For Assembly

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sugar, for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Oven and Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Mix Strawberry Filling: In a small bowl, combine the diced strawberries with granulated sugar and cornstarch. Toss until the berries are evenly coated, which helps to thicken the filling during baking.
  3. Cut Pie Crusts: Unroll the pie crusts on a lightly floured surface. Using a 3–4 inch round cookie cutter or glass, cut the dough into rounds for the hand pies.
  4. Fill Base Rounds: Place half of the dough rounds onto the prepared baking sheet. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of Nutella onto the center of each round, then add a small spoonful of the strawberry mixture on top of the Nutella.
  5. Seal the Pies: Brush the edges of the base rounds lightly with beaten egg to act as glue. Place the remaining dough rounds on top and press the edges together firmly using a fork to seal the pies completely.
  6. Apply Egg Wash and Vent: Brush the tops of each hand pie with the beaten egg wash for a golden finish. If using, sprinkle coarse sugar on top for extra crunch. Cut a small slit in the top of each pie to allow steam to escape during baking.
  7. Bake: Bake the pies in the preheated oven for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the crusts are golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Cool and Serve: Allow the hand pies to cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving. They are best enjoyed warm but can also be served at room temperature.

Notes

  • These hand pies are best served warm but also taste great at room temperature.
  • Try using raspberry or banana slices as a tasty variation to the strawberry filling.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat leftover pies in the oven or toaster oven for best results, avoiding microwaves to keep the crust flaky.
