Description
This Semi-Homemade Tres Leches Cake is a luscious, moist dessert made with a boxed yellow or white cake mix soaked in a rich, creamy blend of three types of milk—sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and whole milk. Topped with fluffy whipped cream and optional fresh fruit garnish, this easy-to-make classic Latin American treat is perfect for special occasions or any time you crave a sweet, indulgent dessert.
Ingredients
Cake
- 1 box yellow or white cake mix (plus ingredients required for the mix: eggs, oil, water)
Milk Mixture
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Topping
- Whipped cream (for topping)
- Fresh fruit (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Cake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare the boxed cake mix according to the package instructions, including adding eggs, oil, and water as specified. Pour the batter into a 9×13-inch baking pan and bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Once baked, let the cake cool completely before proceeding.
- Make the Tres Leches Mixture: In a medium bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, whole milk, and vanilla extract until all ingredients are fully combined and smooth.
- Soak the Cake: Using a fork, poke holes evenly all over the surface of the cooled cake. Slowly pour the prepared milk mixture evenly across the cake’s surface, allowing it to seep into the holes and soak deeply into the cake layers. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours but preferably overnight for maximum flavor and moisture absorption.
- Top with Whipped Cream: When ready to serve, spread a generous layer of whipped cream evenly over the soaked cake. Optionally, garnish with fresh fruit for added flavor and visual appeal. Slice and enjoy your moist and creamy Tres Leches Cake!
Notes
- For best results, allow the cake to soak overnight so it fully absorbs the milk mixture.
- You can customize the garnish with any fresh fruits like strawberries, kiwi, or mango to complement the creamy cake.
- Use whole milk for the milk mixture to ensure a rich and creamy texture; low-fat milk will make the cake less moist.
- If you prefer, homemade yellow or white cake can be used instead of boxed cake mix.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator; the cake stays moist and delicious for up to 3 days.
