Description
A simple and flavorful recipe for sautéed green beans with garlic, offering a quick and easy side dish that brings out the natural freshness of crisp green beans enhanced by golden, crispy garlic.
Ingredients
Green Beans
- 250g / 8oz green beans, trimmed
- 1 tsp salt (for blanching)
Sauté
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil (or butter)
- 2 garlic cloves, finely minced (~ 2 tsp)
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1 pinch black pepper
Instructions
- Blanch beans: Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil with 1 teaspoon of salt. Add the trimmed green beans and cook for 4 minutes until they turn bright green. Drain the beans and rinse them under cold tap water to cool. Shake off any excess water thoroughly.
- Sauté: Heat the extra virgin olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the blanched green beans and the finely minced garlic. Toss or stir the mixture for about 2 minutes until the garlic turns golden and crispy. Season with 1/8 teaspoon salt and a pinch of black pepper, then toss again to combine.
- Serve: Transfer the sautéed green beans to a serving dish and serve warm as a delicious side.
- Prepare ahead: Blanch green beans as described in step 1, then cool and dry them completely. Store the blanched beans in the refrigerator. When ready to serve, simply toss the chilled beans in garlic sautéed in oil or butter for an instant on-demand side dish.
Notes
- Use fresh garlic cloves finely minced instead of jarred or crushed garlic for the best flavor and texture.
- Blanching the green beans before sautéing helps achieve a bright green color and tender-crisp texture.
- To prepare this dish ahead of time, blanch and refrigerate the beans, then quickly sauté with garlic when ready to eat.
