Description

This Sausage and Brussels Sprouts Casserole is a comforting and flavorful dish that combines savory Italian sausage, tender Brussels sprouts, and gooey cheese. A delicious main course perfect for a cozy dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Casserole:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound Italian sausage (casings removed)
  • 1 small yellow onion (diced)
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 pound Brussels sprouts (trimmed and halved)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs (optional for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Cook Sausage Mixture: Heat olive oil in a skillet, cook sausage until browned. Add onion, garlic, Brussels sprouts, salt, pepper, paprika, and red pepper flakes. Cook until Brussels sprouts are tender.
  3. Add Creamy Mixture: Pour in chicken broth and heavy cream, simmer. Stir in mozzarella and half of Parmesan until melted.
  4. Bake: Transfer mixture to a baking dish, top with remaining Parmesan and breadcrumbs. Bake until golden and bubbly.
  5. Serve: Let rest before serving.

Notes

  • You can use turkey or chicken sausage for a leaner option.
  • For a lower-fat version, substitute half-and-half for the cream.
  • Pairs well with a side salad or crusty bread.
