Description

This colorful Rainbow Trifle is a delightful layered dessert combining vibrant, homemade rainbow-colored white cake layers, creamy white chocolate pudding, and fluffy whipped cream, topped with festive rainbow sprinkles. Perfect for celebrations or a fun family treat, this trifle offers a visually stunning and deliciously sweet experience.

Ingredients

Scale

Cake

  • 1 box white cake mix
  • Food coloring (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple)

Pudding and Toppings

  • 2 packages Jello White Chocolate Instant Pudding mix, prepared according to package directions
  • 1 large container whipped cream
  • Rainbow sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the cake layers.
  2. Prepare Cake Batter. Prepare the white cake mix according to the package instructions, then divide the batter equally into six separate mugs or containers.
  3. Add Food Coloring. Add a different food coloring to each portion of batter to create vibrant rainbow colors.
  4. Grease Cake Pans. Grease two 8-inch round cake pans thoroughly to prevent sticking.
  5. Layer Batter in Pan. Pour half of the red batter into the first pan as the base layer, reserving the remaining red batter for the second cake pan.
  6. Add Color Layers. Pour the orange batter next, directly in the middle of the red layer, then continue adding the other colored batters (yellow, green, blue, purple) in succession to create distinct layers.
  7. Spread Batter. Tap the pan gently after each color addition to help the batter spread evenly without mixing the colors.
  8. Repeat for Second Cake. Repeat this layering process with the second cake pan using the reserved batters.
  9. Bake Cakes. Bake both cakes according to the package directions until fully cooked. Allow them to cool completely before removing from pans.
  10. Slice Cake Layers. Once cooled, slice the cakes into layers suitable to fit your trifle dish.
  11. Assemble Trifle. Place a single cake layer at the bottom of your trifle dish. Spread one-third of the prepared white chocolate pudding over the cake, then add a layer of whipped cream. Repeat layering twice more with cake, pudding, and whipped cream.
  12. Decorate Top. Finish the top layer with whipped cream and generously sprinkle with rainbow sprinkles for a festive look.
  13. Chill. Refrigerate the assembled trifle for several hours to allow flavors to meld and the dessert to set before serving.

Notes

  • For the best visual effect, use gel food coloring as it provides vibrant colors without thinning the batter.
  • The trifle can be assembled a day ahead and refrigerated to enhance the flavors.
  • If fresh whipped cream is preferred, you can whip heavy cream with sugar instead of using store-bought whipped cream.
  • Ensure cakes are completely cooled before assembling to prevent the pudding from melting.
