Description

These Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders are a delicious twist on the classic open-faced Kentucky Hot Brown sandwich, transformed into easy-to-serve slider sandwiches. Featuring layers of sliced turkey, crispy bacon, and melted cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, all smothered in a rich, creamy Parmesan sauce and baked to golden perfection, they make the perfect appetizer or party dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Sliders

  • 12 slider buns (preferably soft, like Hawaiian rolls)
  • 1 lb sliced turkey breast (deli-style)
  • 12 slices cooked bacon, halved
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Parmesan Sauce

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk (whole or 2%)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Additional grated Parmesan for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prepare for the sliders.
  2. Prepare the Sliders: Slice the entire pack of slider buns in half horizontally, keeping them intact. Place the bottom halves of the buns evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Assemble the Sliders: Layer the sliced turkey evenly over the bottom buns. Arrange the halved bacon slices on top of the turkey, then sprinkle the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses evenly over the bacon. Place the top halves of the buns over the cheese layers to complete the sliders.
  4. Make the Sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to create a roux. Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes. Add Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to taste. Finally, stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until fully combined.
  5. Pour the Sauce Over the Sliders: Pour the prepared Parmesan sauce evenly over the assembled sliders, covering them generously and ensuring the sauce seeps into all layers.
  6. Bake the Sliders: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Afterward, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
  7. Serve: Remove the sliders from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Optionally, garnish with additional grated Parmesan cheese or chopped parsley for extra flavor and presentation.

Notes

  • Use soft slider buns like Hawaiian rolls for the best texture and flavor.
  • Adjust seasoning in the sauce according to preference, adding more paprika for a smoky kick.
  • Cook bacon just until crisp but not overly dry to maintain a nice texture inside the sliders.
  • Allow sliders to rest after baking to prevent the sauce from spilling when cutting.
  • These sliders can be prepared a few hours ahead and baked just before serving.
  • For a lighter version, use lower-fat milk and omit heavy cream.
