Description
A refreshing and smooth Iced Matcha Latte made with finely sifted matcha powder, hot and cold water, milk of your choice, and optional sweetener. This quick and easy 5-minute recipe results in a beautifully layered, creamy, and energizing beverage perfect for a cool pick-me-up.
Ingredients
Matcha Base
- 1 teaspoon matcha powder
- 3 tablespoons hot water (around 180°F)
- 3 tablespoons ice water
Latte
- ¾ cup milk of your choice (180 mL)
- Ice cubes
- Optional: 1-2 teaspoons sweetener (simple syrup, maple syrup, or honey)
Instructions
- Sift the matcha: In a small bowl, sift 1 teaspoon of matcha powder through a fine mesh strainer to remove any clumps and ensure a smooth, lump-free latte.
- Prepare the matcha base: Add 3 tablespoons of hot water (around 180°F) to the sifted matcha. Using a bamboo matcha whisk or mini whisk, vigorously whisk until the matcha powder is fully incorporated and no lumps remain, creating a smooth, concentrated base.
- Dilute and cool: Add 3 tablespoons of cold water to the matcha mixture and whisk to combine. This helps cool down the matcha and balances the concentration for the latte.
- Assemble the latte: Fill a glass two-thirds full with ice cubes. Pour in ¾ cup of your chosen milk, then carefully add the prepared matcha mixture to achieve a layered look.
- Sweeten and serve: If desired, add 1 to 2 teaspoons of your preferred sweetener. Stir gently to combine all ingredients. Serve immediately and enjoy your refreshing Iced Matcha Latte.
Notes
- For best flavor and texture, use ceremonial grade matcha powder.
- Adjust the amount of sweetener to your taste preference or omit for a naturally bitter latte.
- Milk alternatives such as almond, oat, or soy milk can be used for a dairy-free or vegan option.
- Whisking vigorously helps achieve a frothy, smooth consistency.
- Use cold water for dilution to maintain the iced temperature and avoid residual heat.
