Description

This Cherry Vanilla Soda recipe combines fresh cherry syrup infused with pure vanilla extract, creating a delightful and refreshing homemade soda. Perfect for a sweet, fizzy treat that can be easily customized and kept in the fridge for up to a week.

Ingredients

Scale

Cherry Syrup

  • 12 cherries (halved & pitted)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

To Serve

  • Soda water
  • Ice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cherries and Combine Ingredients: Cut the cherries in half and remove the pits. Add them to a small saucepan on medium heat along with the water, sugar, and vanilla extract.
  2. Start Simmering and Mash Cherries: Once the mixture has been bubbling for about 5 minutes, mash the cherries using a potato masher or another suitable tool.
  3. Simmer to Develop Flavor: Continue simmering the mashed cherry mixture on the same heat for another 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and thicken the syrup.
  4. Cool and Strain Syrup: Remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool for 15 minutes. Then strain the mixture through a sieve into a jar, removing solids and leaving a smooth syrup.
  5. Serve or Store: You can let the syrup cool further or add some over ice in a glass and top with soda water to enjoy immediately. Store any leftover syrup in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Notes

  • Use ripe cherries for the best flavor and natural sweetness.
  • The syrup will keep in the refrigerator for about one week when stored in an airtight container.
  • You can adjust the amount of sugar to your preferred sweetness level.
  • If you prefer a stronger vanilla flavor, you can add a little more vanilla extract.
  • This syrup can also be used as a topping for ice cream or pancakes.
