Description

Cheesesteak-Stuffed Garlic Bread Loaf is a comforting and hearty dish that combines the rich flavors of sautéed ribeye steak, peppers, onions, and melted provolone cheese inside a crusty hollowed-out garlic bread loaf. Perfect for a cozy family meal or game day feast, this recipe offers a delicious twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak, baked to bubbly perfection in the oven.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread

  • 1 loaf French or Italian Bread (day-old bread preferred)

Filling

  • 1 lb Ribeye Steak (can substitute with deli roast beef or rotisserie chicken)
  • 1 medium Onion (sliced, red or yellow)
  • 1 medium Bell Pepper (sliced, or jalapeños)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced, fresh preferred)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce (soy sauce substitute)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil or Butter (for sautéing)
  • 8 oz Provolone Cheese (alternatives: mozzarella or American cheese)

Toppings and Finishing

  • 2 tbsp Melted Butter (for brushing before serving)
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Parsley (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the stuffed bread.
  2. Prepare the Bread: Slice off the top of the loaf and carefully hollow out the center, removing enough bread to create a cavity for the filling while leaving a sturdy shell.
  3. Sauté Vegetables: Heat olive oil or butter in a pan over medium heat. Add sliced onions and bell peppers, cooking for 5-7 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  4. Add Garlic and Steak: Stir in minced garlic and sauté for about one minute. Then add sliced ribeye steak, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper, stirring well until the steak is heated through and flavors meld.
  5. Assemble the Bread: Brush the hollowed bread interior with melted butter. Layer half of the provolone cheese on the bottom, spoon in the steak and vegetable mixture evenly, then top with the remaining cheese.
  6. Bake: Place the stuffed loaf on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, until the cheese has melted and is bubbly and golden.
  7. Finish and Serve: Carefully remove from the oven, brush the edges of the bread with additional melted butter, sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley, slice into servings, and enjoy warm.

Notes

  • Using day-old bread helps the loaf hold its shape better and avoid becoming too soggy during baking.
  • Feel free to substitute ribeye steak with deli roast beef or rotisserie chicken for a different flavor or quicker preparation.
  • Adjust the heat by swapping bell peppers for jalapeños if you prefer a spicier dish.
  • Using melted butter on the bread enhances the richness and crispness of the crust after baking.
  • Leftovers can be wrapped tightly and refrigerated; reheat in the oven for best results to retain crispness.
