Description

A delicious and hearty Cheddar and Bacon Turkey Melt on thick-cut sourdough bread, perfectly grilled to a golden crisp with melted sharp cheddar, crispy bacon, and tender turkey slices. Optional fresh toppings of lettuce and tomato add a refreshing crunch and flavor to this classic comfort sandwich.

Ingredients

Scale

Sandwich Ingredients

  • 4 slices thick-cut sourdough bread
  • 1½ cups cooked turkey breast, thinly sliced (deli or leftover turkey)
  • 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 strips crispy bacon
  • 2 leaves lettuce (optional)
  • 2 slices tomato (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For Grilling

  • 2 tablespoons butter (for grilling)
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (optional, for spreading)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients. Cook bacon until crispy and slice turkey if not already sliced. Wash and slice tomato and prepare lettuce leaves if using these optional toppings.
  2. Butter and Spread Bread. Spread butter on one side of each sourdough slice. Optionally, spread mayonnaise on the opposite side for extra flavor.
  3. Assemble Sandwiches. Place two slices of sourdough buttered side down. Layer one slice of cheddar cheese on each, then add the turkey, crispy bacon, and optional tomato and lettuce. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side up.
  4. Grill Sandwiches. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwiches in the skillet and grill for about 3-4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted.
  5. Serve. Slice each sandwich in half and serve immediately, accompanied by chips or a fresh salad if desired.

Notes

  • Using thick-cut sourdough bread gives a perfect balance of crunch and softness.
  • For a healthier option, reduce the amount of butter or use a butter alternative.
  • You can substitute the turkey with chicken breast if preferred.
  • Add mayonnaise sparingly to avoid making the sandwich too soggy.
  • Use freshly cooked bacon for crispiness rather than pre-packaged to enhance texture and flavor.
