Description
Tender and flavorful Brown Sugar Cinnamon Apples cooked in a buttery apple juice glaze, perfect as a warm side dish or topping for pancakes, oatmeal, or ice cream.
Ingredients
Apples
- 2 pounds apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
Cooking Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/3 cup apple juice
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons cold water (for slurry)
Instructions
- Melt butter and coat apples: Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced apples and toss them in the melted butter until evenly coated.
- Add spices and simmer: In a separate bowl, mix the apple juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice, and salt. Pour this mixture into the skillet with the apples. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer and cover the skillet. Let the apples simmer for 5-10 minutes or until they reach your desired softness.
- Thicken sauce and finish: Create a slurry by mixing the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water. Pour the slurry into the skillet and stir continuously until the liquid thickens into a nice glaze. Finally, stir in the apple cider vinegar for a slight tang and serve the apples warm.
Notes
- Choose firm cooking apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for best texture.
- Adjust cinnamon and brown sugar according to your sweetness preference.
- Serve as a topping for pancakes, waffles, or ice cream, or as a warm side dish.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
