Ingredients
Blackberry Juice
- 1 pint blackberries
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tbsp sugar
Drink
- 6 whole mint leaves
- Juice from half a lime
- 2 oz rum
- 2 oz blackberry juice (prepared)
- Sliced lime wheels
- Soda water
- Ice
- Garnish: lime wedge, mint sprig, blackberries
Instructions
- Prepare the blackberry juice: In a blender, combine the blackberries, sugar, and water.
- Blend the mixture: Blend on medium speed until the berries are completely pureed.
- Strain: Pour the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove seeds and pulp, collecting smooth juice.
- Discard seeds: Dispose of the leftover blackberry seeds and pulp from the sieve.
- Muddle mint and lime: In a serving glass, add mint leaves, freshly squeezed lime juice, and a splash of soda water. Gently muddle the ingredients together to release the mint’s aroma and mix the flavors.
- Add lime wheels: Place sliced lime wheels into the glass for flavor and decoration.
- Add ice: Fill the glass with ice cubes to chill the drink.
- Pour rum and blackberry juice: Add 2 ounces of rum and 2 ounces of the prepared blackberry juice into the glass.
- Stir lightly: Gently stir to blend the rum and juice without disturbing the muddled mint too much.
- Top with soda water: Fill the rest of the glass with soda water to add fizz and balance the flavors.
- Final stir: Stir the entire drink once more to combine all ingredients evenly.
- Garnish and serve: Decorate with a lime wedge, a sprig of mint, and fresh blackberries for an attractive presentation.
Notes
- Use fresh blackberries for the best flavor.
- Adjust the amount of sugar based on your preferred sweetness.
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit the rum and add extra soda water.
- To make ahead, prepare the blackberry juice in advance and refrigerate.
- Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to crush the mint and lime gently.
