Description
This Berry Croissant Bake is a delightful breakfast casserole that combines buttery croissants with fresh mixed berries and a creamy custard mixture. Perfect for a cozy morning or a brunch gathering, it offers a sweet and comforting start to your day with a golden, fluffy texture and fresh fruit accents.
Ingredients
Bakery
- 4 large croissants, broken into small pieces (use already baked croissants, not dough)
Fruits
- 1 cup sliced strawberries
- ½ cup blueberries
- ½ cup raspberries
Custard Mixture
- 1 block (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a 9 x 9-inch baking dish thoroughly with cooking spray to prevent the bake from sticking.
- Arrange Croissants and Berries: Evenly spread the broken croissant pieces across the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Then, evenly distribute the sliced strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries over the croissants for a balanced berry coverage.
- Make Custard Mixture: Using an electric mixer, beat the softened cream cheese until it’s fluffy and smooth. Gradually add the granulated sugar, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract, mixing well until all ingredients are fully combined and creamy.
- Combine and Chill: Pour the cream cheese custard mixture evenly over the croissants and berries in the baking dish. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes or up to 14 hours, allowing the flavors to meld and the croissants to soak up the custard.
- Bake Until Golden: Remove the cover and bake the dish in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set. Serve warm and optionally dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with syrup to enhance the sweetness.
Notes
- Ensure that croissants used are fully baked and not raw dough, as raw dough will not bake properly in this recipe.
- You can prepare this the night before and refrigerate overnight to save time in the morning.
- For added flavor, try adding a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg to the custard mixture.
- Use fresh berries for best taste and texture, but frozen berries can be substituted if drained well.
- Serving warm enhances the creamy custard experience; reheat leftovers gently in the oven or microwave.
