Description

These delicious Apple Brownies combine the moist, nutty goodness of traditional brownies with fresh, sweet apples and toasted pecans for a unique dessert treat. With warm cinnamon and a tender crumb, they’re perfect for an autumn snack or a comforting dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup salted butter (112 g), softened
  • 1 cup sugar (200 g)
  • 1 large egg

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (133 g)
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Add-ins

  • 1 cup chopped apple pieces (100 g), peeled and cored
  • 1/2 cup toasted pecan pieces (53 g)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Toast Pecans: Heat a small pan over medium heat and toast the pecan pieces until fragrant and slightly golden. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
  3. Prepare Apples: Peel, core, and chop the apples into small chunks, ensuring uniform size for even distribution in the batter.
  4. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until the mixture becomes light and fluffy. This step is key for a tender crumb.
  5. Add Egg: Beat in the egg thoroughly until fully incorporated, adding moisture and structure to the batter.
  6. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Gradually fold this mixture into the butter and sugar mixture until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the brownies tender.
  7. Fold in Apples and Pecans: Gently fold the chopped apples and toasted pecan pieces into the batter, distributing them evenly.
  8. Pour and Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 30–45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Cool and Serve: Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before slicing into squares to serve. This resting time helps them set and makes cutting easier.

Notes

  • For an extra moist brownie, you can add a couple of tablespoons of applesauce or yogurt to the batter.
  • Feel free to substitute pecans with walnuts or almonds based on preference or availability.
  • If you like your brownies sweeter or spicier, increase sugar or cinnamon slightly.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • Adding a pinch of nutmeg alongside cinnamon can enhance the warm spice flavor.
